Glenn Ligon

Glenn Ligon, born in 1960, relies on his powerful literary vocabulary to explore issues of race and gender in his paintings. Ligon's works often combine text and images that address politically and socially relevant contemporary issues. Mr. Ligon received a B.A from Wesleyan University and attended Rhode Island School of Design. He is also an alumnus of the distinguished Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. In 2006 He was awarded the prestigious Skoweghan School of Painting and sculpture award for Painting. His recent exhibitions include “Skin is a Language” at The Whitney Museum of American Art in 2006, “Only Skin Deep: Changing Visions of the American Self” curated by Coco Fusco and Brian Wallis at the International Center of Photography, New York, NY, (2004), “Supernova” at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (2003-2004), “Open House”, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, NY (2004), Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated), Solomon R.
