Gabriel Orozco

Gabriel Orozco, born in Veracruz, Mexico in 1962, has presented us with a catalogue of works using everyday objects from our daily life in altered contexts that force us to re-evaluate the way we look at our world. Gabriel attended the Escuela Nacional de Arte Plasticas in Mexico City, and the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain. His work has been exhibited throughout the world and he was recently a featured artist on the PBS program Art in the 21 st Century. Some of his most recent exhibitions include: Gabriel Orozco, Marian Goodman Gallery, New York, New York (2001), "Gabriel Orozco," The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, California; Museo Internacional Rufino Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico; Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterey, Monterey, Mexico (2000-2001), "Blue Memory," Shima/Islands (Association for the Preservation of Mirei Shigemori Residence), Kyoto, Japan (2000), Portikus, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (1999), Centre pour l'Image Contemporaine, Geneva, Switzerland, (1999),"Gabriel Orozco: Photogravity," Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Museum Studies 5) (1999). Mr. Orozco has also received several prestigious awards, including the DAAD Artist in Residence, Berlin Germany in 1995 and the “Salón Nacional de Artes Plásticas," Secció Espacios Alternativos, Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico City, Mexico in 1987. He currently lives and works in Mexico City, New York, and Paris
