  FILES, MUSAC @ TRANS>area

Published by the MUSAC , Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, FILES gathers together a fine selection of projects by contemporary artists.

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, MUSAC , will present FILES this coming Wednesday, March 10, at the TRANS>area , New York. FILES is an editorial project conceived and directed by the curator, Octavio Zaya , for the MUSAC , a new Spanish museistic institution which shall open to the public by the end of 2004.

FILES is proposed as a portfolio of projects which graphically compiles a great number of the concerns and interests which contemporary artistic practices have been undertaking. For its realization, 35 Spanish and international curators of renowned prestige within the art world were invited to take part in the project. Each one was in charge of the selection of up to five living contemporary artists, considered, according to their criteria, as relevant and necessary for the understanding of the diversity and complexity of contemporary artistic production.

A total of 138 international artists undertook a specific project, conceived especially for its publication in FILES . To quote the director of the project, Octavio Zaya, " FILES is proposed as a collective approach to the complexity of frictions, transformations and social, political and cultural fissures through which time elapses in the context of the creation of a new museum for contemporary art--the MUSAC in León--dedicated specially to artistic expressions and practices of the 21st Century.” The result of these works were compiled in more than 600 pages of choice content and design, which makes FILES a necessary tool for all those who are interested in art in general, and in current art in particular.

FILES was presented for the first time in Europe in the International Contemporary Art Fair, ARCO '04 , Madrid, and on this occasion, shall be presented to the American public in TRANS>area on Wednesday, March 10 at 8 o'clock in the evening.
